She is 91, in poor health, and the mother of the X user @RonDesVous, who writes that she lives in Canada. Her name, her province, the hospital and the clinicians involved have not been made public.
Every trip to hospital, her son says, follows the same pattern. Staff remind her that she has the right to refuse treatment. And more than once, they have brought up MAID.
He wrote about it in 2026, replying to a thread about Canadian health care and MAID: “My mother lives in Canada. She is 91 and in poor health. Whenever she goes to the hospital they love to point out that she has the right to refuse treatment. THEY have also brought up MAiD a couple of times. I know exactly what the health care system in Canada is about.” He did not say she had asked about MAID, and he did not name the hospital.
Nothing in his account suggests she ever asked. Hospital staff raised it with a frail 91-year-old more than once, in the same visits where they stressed her right to refuse treatment.
A 91-year-old woman in poor health should not have to hear about MAID every time she goes to hospital. Her son is speaking up because staff raised it without her asking.
