Who they are

This disabled Canadian posts on X as @macaghalla. They are chronically ill with multiple disabilities and say they are not terminal.

What happened

“I’m disabled, not hard of words. I was asked, verbatim ‘Do you know about Medical Assistance in Dying’ by 2 different doctors. A nurse in recovery brought up MAiD when I refused Fentanyl,” they wrote on 22 September 2026. On 28 September they added: “I’ve had 4 doctors mention MAiD to me. I’m not terminal, just chronically ill with multiple disabilities. I never asked for the conversations. They were forced upon me.” They also described MAID being listed among treatment options twice while walking into surgery they had consented to.

Why they were pushed toward MAID

MAID was raised repeatedly by clinicians without a request. Disability and chronic illness alone were enough for the question.

In their own words

“I honestly dont know the point of your question except to cast doubt on my experience,” they wrote to a user who questioned the account. Later: “Also not illegal.”

What this case shows

A disabled patient was asked about MAID by two doctors and a nurse, then said the tally had reached four doctors. The case shows how often disability alone prompts the question.
