Papers, Please… It’s Snowing

You can’t make this up.
New York City is asking for volunteers to shovel snow — but before you pick up a shovel, you’ve got to hand over two forms of ID and jump through registration hoops like you’re applying for a security clearance.
It’s snow.
It’s a shovel.
It’s a sidewalk.
Meanwhile, the same city is suing the federal government over voter ID requirements, arguing that asking people to show identification to vote is too burdensome.
So let’s get this straight.
Want to clear snow off a footpath?
Papers, please.
Want to vote in an election?
How dare you ask for ID.
The contradiction writes itself.
New York has reached peak bureaucratic theatre — where moving frozen water requires documentation, but participating in democracy is apparently sacred from the same standard.
At this point, the shovel probably needs to file a permit too.
