Who they are

This Canadian veteran posts on X as @MuninnOfOdin. The veteran served overseas and has a traumatic brain injury from blast overpressure.

What happened

The veteran wrote: “I was offered MAID by VAC for TBI from blast overpressure, overseas. My friends (4 of them) were offered MAID for PTSD and Major Depressive disorder.”

Why they were pushed toward MAID

A service-caused brain injury was met with an offer of death from the department responsible for veterans’ care. In a later post the veteran pointed to Veterans Affairs Canada’s own investigation into inappropriate MAID conversations with veterans: “Even VAC admits that they were offering MAID to veterans.”

In their own words

“Every combat veteran dealing with VAC has at least heard of the MAID offers. There are MANY stories exactly like these two.”

What this case shows

A veteran injured by a blast overseas was offered MAID by Veterans Affairs. The case adds to the record of VAC raising MAID with veterans seeking help.
