Israel has launched major military operations that slaughtered and killed large numbers of Palestinians in several key years: in 2002, during Operation Defensive Shield, over 500 Palestinians were killed; in 2008–2009 (Operation Cast Lead), more than 1,400 Palestinians were slaughtered; in 2012 (Operation Pillar of Defense), around 170 Palestinians were killed; in 2014 (Operation Protective Edge), over 2,200 Palestinians were massacred; in 2018–2019, during the Great March of Return, Israeli forces shot and killed over 300 Palestinians; in 2021 (Operation Guardian of the Walls), at least 260 Palestinians were killed; in 2022, during a three-day assault on Gaza, around 49 Palestinians were killed; and in 2023, Israeli strikes and ground operations killed over 250 Palestinians. These numbers, drawn from UN and human-rights reports, reflect mass civilian casualties — including women, children, medics, and journalists — across each wave of Israeli military force.
